What Do YOU Think About UK?

Hello, everyone! My post today is short, but I hope for plenty of reading to do in the coming days.

What do YOU think about the state of UK today?

I am curious to know what staff employees think about UK, generally, these days. What does UK do well? What does UK not do well, and how can it be improved?

You can reach me a number of ways: email (sbrothers@uky.edu; ukstafftrustee@gmail.com); Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/ukstafftrustee); and below, in the comments.

The last piece in my “reach everyone who wants to be informed about staff governance” master plan is creation of a listserv. I’ll let you know when that piece falls into place.

Staff employees are always welcome (and encouraged!) to share my blog posts and emails with any other UK employee!

Best,

Sheila

UK Today

UK is good about the offerings to staff on improving their lives in many ways.
UK is not good at enforcing supervisors to allow staff to utilize these offerings.
Instead of one great university there is still a university divided in sections, hospital vs main campus, faculty vs staff, admin vs employees.
Respect for individuals as a whole is lacking and communication is terrible.
UK has great benefits compared to outside companies.

Evaluations

I'm very, very disappointed that my department told my supervisor that she had to limit my evaluation - she could not give anyone in the division over a 3.5, and anything over a 3 she had to have a LOT of justification for. Of course nobody is perfect, and most of us do not believe we deserve a "5," but I truly believe I deserved my whole 3% raise, and did not receive it. I feel let down. Is there any way that this could be stopped? Why the limits on the eval numbers?

@Evaluations... There are no such limits on eval numbers.  You were given a lame excuse that your supervisor needed to use to justify giving you a lesser raise than someone else. Also, lazy supervisors don't want to bother taking the time to "justify" higher scores. You should feel let down.  It was a crock.

More on Evals

I have gotten scores higher than 3.5 on my evaluations. It is definitely possible.  I find it odd that the person's supervisor did not simply tell the employee that he/she felt that the score was deserved, and why.
